SA: Killing unborn child should be an offence, SA opposition

South Australia's opposition says killing an unborn child should be a special offence
under the state's criminal law.

South Australian shadow Attorney-General ROBERT LAWSON says most states already have
laws covering the situation where a person deliberately attacks a pregnant woman intending
to kill or harm her unborn child.

Mr LAWSON says he'll introduce a private member's bill to the next session of state
parliament to create the offence of child destruction.

He says past cases in Queensland and New South Wales in which men kicked their pregnant
girlfriends in the stomach to deliberately end their pregnancies illustrate the need for
such a law.
