Fed: Crean adopts ACTU work and family plan as Labor policy

Opposition Leader SIMON CREAN has adopted the ACTU's work and family platform as ALPpolicy, promising to amend the Workplace Relations Act to allow parents to negotiate moreflexible working conditions.

In a speech to the ACTU's triennial national congress in Melbourne, yesterday, Mr CREAN'ssaid the amendments would clear the way for mothers to return to work part-time from maternityleave.

The ACTU is seeking to change key awards to include an extension of unpaid parentalleave to two years and the right for workers to return to part-time work after parentalleave, among other changes.

The ACTU's work and family test case will be heard in the Australian Industrial RelationsCommission later this year,
