NSW: Attacks on Trinity Grammar

SYDNEY Jan 12 AAP - A security guard hired by Sydney's Trinity Grammar School was assaulted
at the school overnight, police said today.

A police spokeswoman said two young men assaulted the guard shortly after 11pm (AEDT).

The assault comes in the wake of a scandal that has engulfed the school, with students
appearing in court last week on charges of aggravated indecent assault.

The police spokeswoman said the guard challenged the two intruders, who were not students,
as they entered the grounds.

The guard was pushed in the chest and struck with a tree branch before the pair fled
the premises.

The guard suffered minor injuries.

Police inquiries were continuing, the spokeswoman said.

The assault was one of two security incidents at the troubled school overnight.

In the second incident thieves stole cash from the canteen cashbox, the spokeswoman said.

Confirmation of the incidents came as the school took out newspaper advertisements
today seeking to reassure current and prospective students' parents about recent accusations
of a "culture of bullying" existing at the school.
