SA: Govt to buy water rights to spare water

Irrigators in the Murray-Darling will be able to sell their spare water back to the
federal government .. in the latest attempt to return 500 gigalitres to the River Murray.

Parliamentary secretary MALCOLM TURNBULL says he's not sure if the plan will work ..

but it's worth a try.

The government's committed to return 500 gigalitres to the Murray by 2009 .. but is
200 gigalitres short.
